How to approach sponsors:

🏒 How to Ask for Sponsorships for Your Child’s Hockey Team

1. Start with Who You Know

Think local: family-owned businesses, workplaces, gyms, realtors, dentists, restaurants — anyone who knows your family or supports youth sports. Small businesses especially love giving back to the community.

2. Prepare a Simple Sponsorship Letter or Email

Here’s a quick script parents can use:

Subject: Support Local Youth Hockey – [Child’s Team Name]

Hi [Business Name or Owner’s Name],

My name is [Your Name], and I’m a proud hockey parent here in [Your Town]. Our kids play for the [Team Name], a hardworking group of young athletes dedicated to teamwork, growth, and love of the game.

We’re currently seeking local sponsors to help cover costs like ice time, tournament fees, and equipment. Your support would mean the world to our team — and we’d love to recognize your business on banners, team apparel, and social media throughout the season.

Would you be open to sponsoring our team with a donation of [insert amount or sponsorship levels]? I’d be happy to drop off more info or chat anytime!

Thanks for considering being part of our team!

Best,
[Your Name]
[Phone/email]

3. Offer Something in Return

  • Logo on team banner or jersey

  • Shoutouts on social media

  • Thank-you note/photo from the team

  • Free business promo at games or fundraisers

4. Make It Easy

Have a printed handout or PDF ready with:

  • What the funds go toward

  • Sponsorship levels ($100 / $250 / $500 / etc.)

  • How to pay (Venmo, check, online)

5. Follow Up & Say Thank You

Even if they say no, thank them for their time. If they say yes — follow up with updates, photos, and recognition.
